School applies to become academy in bid to fend off closure

Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Primary School in Islington has just six students in its reception class, but space for 30 children.
The school has applied to become an academy in order to secure its future and prevent closure, and is working in partnership with Cardinal Hume Academies Trust.

Schools face closure or merger as pupil numbers plummet

Islington Council is proposing to close The Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Primary School due to low pupil numbers and falling birth rates in the borough.
Montem Primary School and Duncombe Primary School may merge in order to address falling pupil numbers.
Parents have until December 12th to respond to the council's proposal, with a final decision expected in March.
